Wear You Down by Rucy Ban

Hot cowboy...CHECK.  Innocent virgin...CHECK.  What else do you need in a book, right? The chemistry that was built up in Wear You Down between Emma and Harry was incredible.  The entire story was filled with so much emotion and lust, it was almost painful.  I had to take breaks from reading because it got to me so much at times.

I absolutely loved Emma's bluntness.  As I started this book, it didn't feel like I was reading a fictional story, but rather a story being told about real life events.  Rucy Ban's writing style in this book was also very different than I am used to, but in a very refreshing way.  I feel like it matched Emma's personality perfectly.  She did an amazing job of writing in a way that really captured two very different cultures seamlessly, and did an especially good job melding them together when Emma and Harry's worlds collided.

Six Months (Book 2) by Dannika Dark

“When a man wants you to see his house of pain, he’ll open the door and invite you in.”

Six Months is the second installment of the Seven series by Dannika Dark. Here, we learn about Reno, the elusive private investigator. We also learn more about April, Lexi's close friend and shop manager. April has had a lot of challenges in her life (her mother was an addict, her grandmother owed a lot of loan sharks that April had to pay off). I have to say that while I loved this book, I'm still hung up on the first one.  BUT that does not mean that I didn't like it. Oh no. I laughed and felt my heart clench and lusted after Reno (typical bad boy). Oh yes, I definitely enjoyed this book (I did, after all, put it on my top 3 list for 2014); I'm just still in love with Austin from book 1, Seven Years. I like my books to have some suspense and mystery in them and this definitely accommodates my needs. One of my favorite scenes is when Lexi learns what Reno really is (I won't post spoilers, but it is very entertaining). All the male characters in this series are lickable. I mean, likable. Definitely drool worthy though, let's be honest. And Reno is no exception. I highly recommend everyone to check out this series as well as Dannika Dark's, Mageri series. Book 3, Five Weeks, will be released July 29th so be on the lookout for it!

COVER REVEAL: Alex (Cold Fury Hockey #1) by Sawyer Bennett

Loveswept (Random House) is thrilled to debut the cover of ALEX: A Cold Fury Hockey Novel by USA Today bestselling author Sawyer Bennett! ALEX is the first in a sexy and exciting new series that’s hot enough to melt the ice…

Hockey star Alexander Crossman has a reputation as a cold-hearted player on and off the rink. Pushed into the sport by an alcoholic father, Alex isn’t afraid to give fans the proverbial middle finger, relishing his role as the MVP they love to hate. Management, however, isn’t so amused. Now Alex has a choice: fix his public image through community service or ride the bench. But Alex refuses to be molded into the Carolina Cold Fury poster boy… not even by a tempting redhead with killer curves.

As a social worker, Sutton Price is accustomed to difficult people—like Alex, who’s been assigned to help her create a drug-abuse awareness program for at-risk youth as part of the team’s effort to clean up his image. What she doesn’t expect is the arrogant smirk from his perfect lips to stir her most heated fantasies. But Sutton isn’t one to cross professional boundaries—and besides, Alex doesn’t do relationships… or does he? The more she sees behind Alex’s bad-boy façade, the more Sutton craves the man she uncovers.

Seven Years (Book 1) by Dannika Dark

"Seven years ago, my world ended.

Seven years later, my new life began."

This is the first book in Dannika Dark's latest series, Seven. I was first introduced to this awesome paranormal world in Dannika's first series, Mageri Series, and knew I had to check out this one. Lexi Knight has been in love with her brother's best friend since her childhood. However, Austin Cole has been MIA for a long time and has come back on the seventh anniversary of her brother's death. Austin is back with an agenda: to look out for Lexi and her family (her mother and sister). Austin is a shifter but humans do not know this. This is a world that does not believe vampires and shifters are real.  I love how Lexi was introduced into this new world. There's suspense and romance in this book that will keep you turning the page. Each book in the series is dedicated to a character introduced in this book. I love the chemistry between Austin and Lexi. What great chemistry. If you like to read paranormal romance, definitely check out this series. You won't be disappointed!

Legal Affairs - Confessions of a Litigation God by Sawyer Bennett

After the delightful torture of reading the Legal Affairs serials in installments every two weeks I was left feeling sad that it was all over.  Then I heard about Confessions of a Litigation God and learned that not only would I be getting more Matt Connover, but that it would be a full length novel!  I was overjoyed with anxious excitement.   There are times when the male POV version of a story just falls flat making me wish I had skipped it; and then there are times where it elevates the characters and the story to a whole new level.  Confessions of a Litigation God is the latter.

Matt Connover is a super sexy, powerful, rich attorney.  He knows what he wants out of life and isn't afraid to live his life the way he wants, or at least he's convinced himself that this is true.  In Confessions we learn so much more about Matt and what makes him tick.  The circumstances of his past have left him far more damaged than I previously thought.  I actually found my heart aching for Matt at the times where, during Legal Affairs, I honestly wanted to hurt him (especially in his family jewels).

The intensity that Matt approaches life with truly surprised me.  I knew Matt enjoyed the things he did, both in his professional life as well as his personal life, but I never imagined how hyper focused and driven by carnal desires his actions really were.  Matt is a man that aims to please, and not just himself.  His intensity really revved up the heat factor in Confessions!  When Matt described his desire for Mac, his need to please her, and the pleasure he gains from a job well done... Well, lets just say I was insanely jealous of Mac in those moments!  If only our significant others were half as attentive as Matt Connover!  Confessions of a Litigation God is H.O.T!

I cannot think of one thing I wanted to know about Matt that wasn't directly answered in Confessions.  Confessions ends just a touch later than Legal Affairs.  The epilogue was the perfect little bit of extra that the series needed to end on the perfect note and left me with a big smile on my face.  Sawyer Bennett did and amazing job telling Matt's story without the "I just read this" feeling that too often happens with these type of books.  Every Legal Affairs fan NEEDS to read Matt's story!

My Decadent Demon (My Demon Trilogy Book #1) by Alicia Dawn and Nikita Jaks

I love books that pull me in from the beginning and mess with my emotions. Alicia Dawn and Nikita Jaks have created characters in My Decadent Demon (My Demon Trilogy Book # 1) that allow you to feel what they are feeling. Seriously, my chest tightened up a couple of times. That was an amazing journey I just went on… and that was just book ONE! I immediately wanted to dive into book two, My Demon Determined, when I finished the epilogue. The really good parts are things that I cannot discuss here because they would be spoilers (but man, are they good!) so I am just going to tell you to read the book and see for yourself. Yes, there’s some steamy scenes where Sera, the female character, shows us she is an angel with a kinky side *cough* light bondage *cough*. She's a strong female character, which I totally lurve, but I think I am falling for Cole. His devotion to Sera... swoon. I really enjoyed the book and the characters so much so that I will end this review now so I can go start on the second book… who needs sleep tonight anyway?

Danielle’s top 4 reads of 2014:
(she didn't listen to the rules)

Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

At twenty-two years old, Sydney is enjoying a great life: She's in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her best friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers that Hunter is cheating on her--and she's forced to decide what her next move should be.

Soon, Sydney finds herself captivated by her mysterious and attractive neighbor, Ridge. She can't take her eyes off him or stop listening to the passionate way he plays his guitar every evening out on his balcony. And there's something about Sydney that Ridge can't ignore, either. They soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one.

A passionate tale of friendship, betrayal, and romance, Maybe Someday will immerse readers in Sydney's tumultuous world from the very first page.

Lost In Me (Here and Now Book #1) by Lexi Ryan

Lost in Me is the first book in the Here and Now series, a spin-off of the New York Times and USA Today bestselling New Hope series. This sexy amnesia love triangle is intended for mature readers. The last thing I remember is having drinks at Brady’s and trying to avoid eye-contact with my life-long crush—the gorgeous, unattainable Maximilian Hallowell. They tell me that was a year ago, but I have no memories of anything since then. What I do have is this ring on my finger that Max says he gave me, and this much-thinner body I’ve dreamed of most of my life. Aside from a case of retrograde amnesia, everything seems almost...perfect. But the deeper I immerse myself into this new world of mine—planning a wedding to a man I don't remember dating, attempting to run a business I don't remember starting—the clearer it becomes that nothing is as it seems. Do I have the life I’ve always wanted or is it a facade propped up by secrets I don't even know I have? I need answers before I marry Max, and the only person who seems to have them is the angry, tatted, sexy-as-sin rocker Nate Crane. And Nate wants me for himself. Lost in Me is not a standalone novel, as the story continues in Here and Now book two, FALL TO YOU, releasing in June.

The Hunger Series by Jason Brant

Who loves a good paranormal read? I do! *waving hands in the air* Sometimes I just feel like diving into a thriller or a good horror book. Jason Brant is a thriller/horror writer and his series, The Hunger, puts a nightmarish spin on the paranormal. First of all, I can’t even define what classification these monsters fall under. Here’s the gist: gassy explosions are dispersed throughout various US cities where people exposed start to behave like zombies, or in the series they are referred to as daywalkers. Then they begin to mutate after several days and only come out at night, which implies vampires. However, their mutation has them looking like beasts that kind of behave like wild gorillas, which implies they were… somethings.

The series comes from the POV of an out of work guy, Lance, who is on the brink of divorce. I love this character though. And what book is complete without a kick-ass heroine? In comes Cass with a medieval axe to come and rescue Lance. She is a strong female character and I would love to have that attitude and resilience in stormy weather. They make a great team and they have an interesting relationship that suits both of their personalities. I loved this series and could not put the books down. They were fast reads and even after each book was finished, the world Jason Brant created stayed with me for awhile. I even did my own mental check list for what I would need in case of a zombie/vampire/werewolf apocalypse occurred while reading the books. Okay, and after I completed them as well. Don't judge; it's always good to be prepared. :)

This series is a trilogy, averaging 200 pages per book. It is also a “lend me” book on Barnes and Noble, so be on the lookout for friends who have read this series. I love it when authors put an interesting spin on a played out theme. Brant introduced a new “monster” in which people have to fear for their lives during the day by the daywalkers and also at night because of the “beasts” (also known as Vladdies). Each book has a resolution so cliff-hangers are not an issue. If you like paranormal, I’m sure you will love this book. Brant creates a world that is not seen through rose-colored classes, but out of something that I can actually see occurring in reality if there ever was a major plague that occurs. You can read these individually or you can get the books clumped together in the "Omnibus Edition" for a discounted price. The book covers have links to Amazon, but here are the Barnes and Noble links below:

Excerpt

Sean drove like a maniac to get to the hotel. He knew he shouldn’t call anyone since both he and Frankie had been warned to stay in character, that these dudes had ears everywhere and the ability to tap phones. He did have his burner phone that Eddie had arranged, but he wanted to keep that number unused until they needed it for an emergency. The fact that Frankie had slipped warned him she must have been rattled. From what he’d seen of his lady, nothing got to her. Hold it! Nothing except her mother. He pulled into the parking lot and the sight he came upon had his teeth grinding and gravel flying as he slammed on the brakes. Just as the car stopped completely, a younger man’s body hit his windshield and slid down in front of his wheels.Frankie had another fellow on the ground and was beating the shit out of him. Sean couldn’t believe his eyes. What the hell? Quickly, he got out of the car and went to assist. Not that there was any need to help her, he just figured he’d stop her from murdering the poor bastard. As he approached, the wiggling idiot didn’t seem to know when to stop. “Bitch, get off of me.” She held him in a way no one could escape.Sean couldn’t resist. He crouched down and waited until she noticed him. “Having fun?”At first, Frankie looked embarrassed to be caught straddling a young man in the parking lot. But that wore off when she had to apply more pressure to stop the perp determined to flip her off. Giving the dude her full attention, she asked, “Who sent you here? Tell me and I might let you up.”With his cheek being ground into the gravel, and his arm twisted up behind his back in a hold that looked positively painful, the loser still refused. “No one sent me. I was just messin’ around. Hey, man, can you get this crazy bitch off me?”Sean grinned evilly, held up both hands and shook his head.
