PROMO & GIVEAWAY: Squeeze Play by Nicolette Pierce

Nadia is faced with the hardest decision of her life and she’s hiding like a coward. Since the decision is choosing between the two men she loves, hiding seems like a reasonable option. That is until things start going terribly wrong. Caleb’s money has been stolen and the likely suspect is none other than his PR manager Jessica. And Greyson has embarked on a project that lures a killer.

While attempting to help both men, Nadia dates them simultaneously in order to figure out which man she loves more. It has nothing to do with the fact that they are both sinfully handsome. That’s a bonus. Unfortunately, things never go as smoothly as Nadia plans. Not only does she anger the men she loves, but the killer sets her as the target.

Nadia’s not the only one having relationship problems. Mya and David are at a standoff. Mya’s determined to stand her ground, even if it means sleeping on an air mattress far away from her beloved clothes. Mark wants more from content bachelor Frankie. Neither of them are willing to talk, and Mark’s ready to leave Las Vegas for good. Muffin finds she’s married to a man who actually stands up to her. And, Lord, they aren’t shy about letting everyone hear their arguments, nor their . . . other activities. Her husband has a reason for sticking around, and if Muffin isn’t careful, it could mean her downfall. And Remy, well, he’s gone and kissed someone, adding confusion to an already messy situation.

In the end, it all comes down to Nadia and the love of her life. She’ll choose the right man. Sadly, it might be too late.

Yesterday was the release day for Squeeze Play! Squeeze Play is the fourth and final book in the Nadia Wolf series. I have read the other three books and am eager to read this one as well. Nicolette Pierce has said that “all is revealed” in this latest installment so I am hoping that all my questions are answered and we finally find out who Nadia will end up with (the sexy casino owner or the equally sexy famous poker player). I have enjoyed watching Nadia deal with each guy in the first three books. If you like Janet Evanovich, you will enjoy this series (as well as Pierce's other series, Mars Cannon, and have reviewed two of those books - Deadly Dancing and Predator Patrol). Enter the Rafflecopter drawing for your chance to win one of two eBook copies of Squeeze Play! ~Amber

The Fire (Northwest Passage #4) by John A. Heldt

I have loved every one of John Heldts books, but The Fire has by far been my favorite. It had humor, romance, suspense, sadness, sacrifice, and love. I also love how it unexpectedly tied together all of the characters from the past books in the Northwest Passage series.

Kevin Johnson went on an adventure of a lifetime in the summer following his college graduation. He traveled 103 years into the past, made many good friends, and met the love of his life along the way.  His plan was to convince Sarah to come back to his time and marry him in present day. But, as you can imagine, time travel has a way of messing with the past as well as the present, and things don't always end up working out the way you hope.

I can not wait to dig into The Mirror, the last book in this series. I just hope Mr. Heldt continues writing. His books are not only entertaining, but also extremely well written. I almost think that he is secretly a time traveler himself and these are his stories simply because they seem so real! Do yourself a favor, and add this entire series to your TBR list! It has quickly become one of my favorites!

COVER REVEAL: Make it a Double (Last Call #2) by Sawyer Bennett

Brody Markham has endured a nightmare, spending the last five years in prison and losing everything that was dear to him. Now he’s back home, trying to survive in a world he doesn’t recognize anymore. While his family and friends desperately try to reach through to him, he shelters himself further and further away from their love.

Alyssa Myers has worked her entire life to distance herself from the luxurious and privileged lifestyle in which she was raised. Running her non-profit agency, The Haven, she is content to spend her days helping abused animals find sanctuary, which fulfills her in a way that money just can’t buy.

Maybe it’s that she recognizes in Brody some of the same characteristics she sees in her homeless wards, but Alyssa is powerless to stop her personal quest to make Brody whole again.

While Brody struggles to surface from the darkness, Alyssa tries to protect her heart in case he’s not willing to accept the light that she offers him.

Poughkeepsie by Debra Anastasia has been a cult hit bestseller since 2011. A homeless guy counting the smiles of a kind train commuter spiraled into a novel that was nominated by the Rockstars of Romance as one of the most romantic stories ever and won 2nd place!   It was a story that deserved getting a jumbo-sized enhancement. Extra scenes out the ying yang was, of course, a huge part of the fun. Getting to spend some of those previously undiscovered first moments with Blake and Livia or the moment he proposed was worth exploring. In Debra’s wildest dreams she imagined Poughkeepsie with its own soundtrack, anchored by her favorite musicians. When blockbuster talent Ron Pope signed on with fourteen songs and then Rustic Overtones agreed as well, she knew things were going to get crazy cool.

After almost two full years of development, the Enhanced Poughkeepsie is ready.  Debra lost count of the hours spent, as did the developer poured into this. It was beast, and more amazing than she could have ever imagined. This app became the most exceptional reading experience Debra could devise for her readers.

REVIEW:

I was first introduced to Debra Anastasia through her Seraphim series (if you haven’t read it, go read it!! After Poughkeepsie, of course). I heard of Poughkeepsie from other readers and had it in my to-be-read list forever. I was told it was kind of a serious book, and at the time I was looking for light, funny reads. However, when I finally took a chance on Poughkeepsie, I was fell in love. Blake is an awesome guy. Have you ever had someone count your smiles before?Someone who can remember each and every smile and recall his favorite ones? Blake counts Livia’s whenever she enters the train station… his home.  Blake’s homeless and has his own challenges from his past he must conquer. But what gets him through the day is her smile. Sigh. I love how Blake interacts with Livia. I love how Livia interacts with Blake. Their energy is so palatable. You feel for these characters and you root for them to have their HEA. But it’s definitely not easy for them. Lots of obstacles… well, you will have to read it. I also love Blake’s brothers: Cole and Beckett. Their past binds them and yet, they live three very different lives. But the love for each other is very evident. You don’t mess with one and not expect retaliation from the others. I can’t keep writing or else I will give something away. Just… just read it and experience the world of Poughkeepsie. You will not be disappointed.

INTERVIEW:

We were blessed to be able to sit down with Debra AND Blake and get them to answer a few questions for us!

DEBRA

Books and Motherhood: What inspired you to write Poughkeepsie?

Debra: I was excited about the possibility of showing people that real love could be a fairy tale. The grandest gestures are the tiny ones --like a smile!

Books and Motherhood: Blake is an awesome guy... does he take after anyone you know?

Debra: Of all my characters, he is the most like my husband, who’s the nicest human on the planet aside from my two kids.

Books and Motherhood: Why did you choose to set Poughkeepsie in Poughkeepsie, NY?

Debra: It was actually a very technical reason. The Metro North train Livia takes each morning only goes so far on the tracks. Poughkeepsie is the last stop before you have to switch over to Amtrak to go North. So Poughkeepsie became her home station. It’s super gorgeous too.

Books and Motherhood: What was your inspiration for the Enhanced Collectors Edition?  How long did it take to launch from conception to release day?

Debra: It took about two years from the first phone call from my Publisher to looking at the app on my iPad. They offered me the opportunity to pretty much create my own dream template of extras and I took it from there. I wanted to incorporate the Internet experience of finding outtakes, songs, videos and images in the app for the reader during the story. I wanted to break every rule there was for reading a book.

Books and Motherhood: Do you still get star struck when you meet authors and if so, who was the most recent one?

Debra: I suck at getting star struck. I’m sort of like a cocker spaniel that thinks everyone is her friend. I think my entire follow list on Facebook is a little insane. So many talented, well know people on there. I should have some sense and go all fangirl, but I just crack jokes instead.

BLAKE

Books and Motherhood: What were the funniest and scariest things you observed during your time at the Poughkeepsie train station?

Blake: The scariest thing for sure had to be Livia standing up to the jerks that wanted to start with me. And not because I was afraid for her, I’ll always keep her safe, but because we spoke. She was such a dream for me, to make a connection with her was very scary. I didn’t want to say anything that would make the smiles stop. The funniest had to be the day my brother Beckett came by to get me. He’s so loud and rude, but there was a heard of little kids waiting for their train. It was great watching him try to control himself and invent fake curses.

Books and Motherhood:  After all this time, do you still count Livie’s smiles?

Blake: Of course. If I stop counting then I might have stopped trying to make her happy. And that’s unacceptable.

Books and Motherhood: If you could make a piano arrangement for a song and perform it live for the artist, what song would it be and why?

Blake: That’s a great question. I think it would be fun to work with Ron Pope. He could add guitar. There is already piano on that track, but the song reminds me of Livia so much, I’d have to go with that one. And Ron is very talented.

Books and Motherhood: What is your favorite memory of you and your brothers together?

Blake: Just the other day we had a few drinks together. It wasn’t anything special, except that it’s exactly what we all dreamed of as kids. Just a nice, quiet moment together as a family. No danger, just laughing. We don’t take a second for granted when we get that luxury.

Books and Motherhood: Tell us a story about Mouse.

Blake: Mouse! Wow. He was a favorite friend for sure. I think I loved walking in on him trying to teach Beckett to Knit. It was hilarious. Beck had lost a bet and that was his punishment. I’ve never seen something so peaceful be so violent and filled with curses.

The all-consuming guilt he feels every time he thinks of that girl who won't so much as allow him near her hospital room to apologize. As the months go by and the shame and loneliness festers, Cole begins to lose his grip of what once was important-college, his girlfriend, his future. His life. It's not until Cole hits rock-bottom that he can begin to see another way out of his personal hell: forgiveness. And there's only one person who can give that to him... Are you as excited about this as we are?? And...this is going to be available at the great price of $.99!!

About FOUR SECONDS TO LOSE: Owning a strip club isn’t the fantasy most guys expect it to be. With long hours, a staff with enough issues to keep a psych ward in business, and the police regularly on his case, twenty-nine year old Cain is starting to second guess his unspoken mission to save the women he employs. And then blond, brown-eyed Charlie Rourke walks through his door, and things get really complicated. Cain abides by a strict “no sleeping with the staff” rule. But being around Charlie challenges Cain’s self-control…and it’s been a long time since any woman has done that. Twenty-two-year old Charlie Rourke needs a lot of money, really fast, in order to vanish before it’s too late. Taking her clothes off for men makes her stomach curl but Charlie tells herself that at least she’s putting her acting anddancing skills to good use. And though her fellow dancers seem eager to nab their sexy, sophisticated, and genuinely caring boss, she’s not interested. After all, Charlie Rourke doesn’t really exist—and the girl pretending to be her doesn’t need to complicate her life with romance. Unfortunately, Charlie soon discovers that developing feelings for Cain is inevitable, that those feelings may not be unrequited—but losing him when he finds out what she’s involved with will be more painful than any other sentence awaiting her.

Fan Girl by Brandace Morrow

What a book! This is a debut novel by Brandace Morrow and it rocks! You have a lead female who is not the typical character you would normally meet in books nowadays. Ali’s an overweight teenager who doesn’t really get a lot of attention from guys, family drama, but there’s little teen angst (some books lay it on thick… but not here). She finds a garage band that allows her to escape her reality on the weekends and she has remained loyal to them, as they have now become famous. One of the main attractions of this band – aside from their music – is the lead singer, Deklan (boom chicka bow wow), Ali’s first love, although he doesn’t notice. He is a rocker who is not only hot with tattoos, but is also extremely sweet and dedicated to his fans. The characters were really easy to relate to, which allowed me to take my own liberties with placing actual faces to them. I was a huge Incubus fan in high school and college (well, still am) and so Deklan quickly became Brandon Boyd (tats and all… well, with a little more meat added to him). Which was pretty awesome in my head.

*Note to the author: I’m sorry, Brandace! My brain took over and wouldn’t let me have it any other way, especially when you described other members of the band… similar to Incubus, just different instruments*

Okay, back to the review. Ali’s all grown up now, sporting tattoos and piercings, and has worked hard to overcome life’s challenges. I’d totally hang out with this chick. Ali grabbed life by the horns and made something of herself. Loyal to her favorite band after all these years, Ali still goes to their concerts whenever they tour. This book felt like a modern day fairy tale for the most part. However, many situations in this  story seemed a little too ideal, with only minor bumps in the road (well, until you get to the end… it was a nail biter!), and would have liked to have seen a little bit more action/drama in the middle of the book. But with that said, I couldn't put it down and finished it in almost one sitting (seriously, I got nothing done that day). I loved this book. This is a great first novel and I invite everyone to read this incredible story about not giving up and making dreams come true.

Excerpt

I narrowed my eyes at him and smiled. “Show-off. I thought you were supposed to show me how to use my core.”
“I am. Grab your ball.” He leaned against the computer and smirked at me.
Rubbing my hands down my pant legs, I retrieved my ball and started to the lane. Cameron followed behind me, causing an uncomfortable dry sensation to build in the back of my throat. I tucked my elbows in at my sides, placed my feet together, and held my ball with both hands.
“The trick is in the arm flow. You can’t hesitate in your motion. Some people do so without realizing, because they are worried they might smack the ball into the back of their knee.” One of his hands gripped my left hip while the other touched my elbow. I licked at my bottom lip, fighting the moan that had built at the base of my throat from his nearness. “Then you need to focus on your step. When you lunge forward, you also need to bend your knees. Follow this motion.” He moved my arm back and pressed on my hip so that I would dip at the right time.
“Like that?” My voice was soft as my nerve endings continued to short out and tingle.
“Exactly.” His warm breath grazed against my ear, and I prayed he’d press his lips there for a moment, maybe even take a little nibble. “Now you try it alone.”
I felt it the second he stepped away from me, taking all of his warmth and sexy guy-smell with him. Doing as Cameron had instructed, I launched the ball down the center of the lane and managed to wipe out nearly half of the pins.
“Not a strike, but still pretty good if I do say so myself.” I smiled and turned back around to wait for my ball.
“Oh yes.” His voice was low when he spoke, as though we were talking about two separate things.
My cheeks warmed, and I watched the machine as it spit out my ball. Hurrying, I lined up my body like the previous time and watched as the ball spiraled down the lane, taking down three more pins.
“You’re a really good teacher,” I said as I walked back toward my seat, grinning from ear to ear.
An impish grin twisted his lips as he walked past me, brushing his body against mine, to retrieve his ball. “Just imagine all theother things I could teach you.”

I found my heart in West Virginia by Chelsea Falin and Cory Hammond

The story line of “I Found My Heart in West Virginia ” was very good, and it could have been a GREAT book. However, it fell a little flat for me in a number of ways.

I think my main issue with this book was the writing style. It was a book set in the American South, and I would have been fine with that, however, the author went a bit too far trying to write with a Southern drawl. It was distracting for me and felt a little forced at times. The dialogue between the characters didn’t flow well and I couldn’t tell if it was because of the accent, or something else.

My second issue with this book was that everything was so ‘nice’. Almost too nice…without any drama. Not that every book needs to have death, heartache or be a thriller, but I felt like it was all just very even and didn’t invoke ANY emotion from me. There were too many details in places that weren’t necessary and not enough in places that would have helped the story line a bit. There were two key points in this story that could have helped create the emotional connection I needed. One was a car crash that could have been built up so much more and another was the birth of a premature baby. However, both scenes tied up nice and neatly with little to no drama or emotion at all. They lacked the story arc that I’ve come to expect when I’m reading.

I really wanted to like this book, but I almost didn't finish it. I kept reading in hopes that I would feel that connection to the characters that I always feel with a good story. Unfortunately that didn’t happen this time.

Can't Go Without (Oasis Waterfal #2) by Angelisa Stone

After reading Can't Go Home (Book 1 in the Oasis Waterfall Series) I never in a million years thought I could or would ever like Tristan.  There have been characters in the past who I didn't like that were redeemed to me, but none of them started off in my head as horribly as Tristan had.  I'm happy to say, he well and truly surprised me.  Apparently all Tristan needed was some time to grow up.

There wasn't much I didn't love about Leah (except for the horrendous lie she told, obviously).  She struck me as a truly down to earth girl who is desperately trying to get everything she wanted out of life.  She is sweet and spunky, and just a little bit lost.

I love seeing everyone from Can't Go Home pop back up and meeting new characters.  It was awesome seeing how everyone's lives moved on and evolved all while Tristan and Leah figured their stuff out.  For me that gave this book sense of  "real life" that can sometimes be lacking in a series like this.

I know I'll be looking for Book 3 in the Oasis Waterfall series!

BLOG TOUR AND GIVEAWAY: Can't Go Withouth (Oasis Waterfall #2) by Angelisa Stone

“What’s the one thing you can’t go without?”

Tristan O'Donnell has money, women, and all the luxuries that cold hard cash can buy. Tristan's been sucking sunshine right from the monogrammed silver spoon his life was served up on since the day he was born. And quite frankly, he wouldn't want it any other way. He's his mother's pride and joy, his father's right-hand-man, and the envy of every guy around. All Tristan has to do is flash his million dollar smile, give his trademark wink, and he gets what he wants, when he wants, anytime he wants.

Leah Franchetti grinds her fingers to the bone; sculpting, painting, recreating treasures from trash—the very sentiment that defines her life. Her inventive, vindictive, lucrative, and seemingly unforgivable plan allowed her to shortcut her way into the life she always imagined, owning an art gallery, surrounding herself in the comfort of her passion and dreams.

When circumstances force Leah and Tristan to come face-to-face with the past and with Leah’s devious manipulation, truths come flooding forth, destroying those in the present and possibly jeopardizing both of their highly anticipated futures.

Can Tristan overcome Leah’s slander and deception—despite how dangerously close he comes to losing the one thing he can’t go without—money? Will Leah be forced to come clean, knowing she’ll have to live her life with the one thing she can’t go without—her dignity?
