BLOG TOUR: Make It A Double (Last Call #2) by Sawyer Bennett

Brody Markham has endured a nightmare, spending the last five years in prison and losing everything that was dear to him. Now he’s back home, trying to survive in a world he doesn’t recognize anymore. While his family and friends desperately try to reach through to him, he shelters himself further and further away from their love.

Alyssa Myers has worked her entire life to distance herself from the luxurious and privileged lifestyle in which she was raised. Running her non-profit agency, The Haven, she is content to spend her days helping abused animals find sanctuary, which fulfills her in a way that money just can’t buy.

Maybe it’s that she recognizes in Brody some of the same characteristics she sees in her homeless wards, but Alyssa is powerless to stop her personal quest to make Brody whole again.

While Brody struggles to surface from the darkness, Alyssa tries to protect her heart in case he’s not willing to accept the light that she offers him.

Review

In On the Rocks we met Brody Markham.  He is broody, closed off and borderline rude to everyone he comes in contact with.  However, in Make it a Double we find out that every singe ounce of angst Brody exhibits is hard earned and I honestly cannot blame him at all for his behaviors.  The things we learn about Brody have left me wanting to just snuggle up to the man and give him a big hug.

Coming from such a privileged background, I really expected Alyssa to be the stereotypical rich girl with a redeeming quality or two, but I was so wrong.  Alyssa is so down to earth, caring and giving.  She is so dedicated to her animal shelter its almost a fault.  She also loves with everything she has.

I really enjoyed the love story between Alyssa and Brody.  It was sweet and realistic given the circumstances.  I really loved how the secondary story lines moved the story along and added to the overall suspenseful feel.  I honestly think Sawyer Bennett could easily transition into a romantic suspense writer if she ever caught that whim and be very successful with it.

PROMO: Better When He's Bad (Welcome to the Point #1) by Jay Crownover

So you’ve met Rule, Jet, Rome, and soon Nash! But there’s a new boy in town, along with a new series, by Jay Crownover. Better When He’s Bad (Welcome to the Point #1) is a new adult novel scheduled for publication on June 17, 2014, by William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishing. This is how Jay describes her new novel/series:
“It’s dark and dangerous and set in a fictitious underworld/bad part of town. The men in all of the books are way more along the line of being anti-heros than true leading men. I guess the easiest way to sum them up is by saying the books are all about the choices these characters have to make and the outcomes and results of those decisions. Bax’s book is all about having to make the hard choices and what becomes of him and his lady in doing so. They are super fun, very atmospheric and I think really what writing a bad boy should be like if you’re going to do it :)”
Look in the back of Nash’s book to find the first chapter of “Better When He’s Bad.”

About the Author

I’m supposed to share interesting details about myself so that my readers get to know me so here we go in no particular order: I’m an natural redhead even though I haven’t seen my real hair color in years, I’m a big fan of tattoos and have a half sleeve on either arm and various other pieces all over the place, I’ve been in the bar industry since I was in college and it has always offered interesting insight into how men and women interact with each other, I have 3 dogs that are all crazy, I live in Colorado and love the snow, I love music and in all reality wish I could be a rock star not a writer or a bartender but I have zero talent so there is that. I love to write, love to read and all I’m interested in is a good story with interesting characters that make the reader feel something.

Lost in Me (Here and Now #1) by Lexi Ryan

Can you imagine waking up in a hospital with no recollection of how you got there, only to discover the last thing you remember happened almost a year ago?  That's the situation Hanna finds herself in.  Bruised and battered but with a body she always wanted and apparently, all of her childhood dreams have been realized.  Her life seems absolutely perfect, but it doesn't feel right.

This book has a little bit of everything.  Suspense, mystery, romance, and even a love triangle (kinda)!  You walk though Hanna's life as clueless about what is going on as she is, figuring things out right along with her.  Max seems like the perfect doting fiance.  Concerned about Hanna, worried about her accident, and so in love he cannot wait to be married; the sooner the better.  When Nate the rock star enters Hanna's life, a man she doesn't remember ever meeting, she begins to doubt everything she has learned about her "perfect" new life.  Usually I peg who the heroine will wind up with pretty quickly when love triangles are involved, however, I'm left scratching my head this time.  I'm not even sure who's team I'm on yet!  There are good things that can be said for Max and Nate, and some bad things too.  I can't wait to learn more about each of them!  Fair warning though, Lost in Me ends on a HUGE cliffhanger.

I have read other books about amnesia patients in the past and they have always fallen flat.  I have to say, however, this one really surprised me with its twists and turns.  A few things I saw coming, some hit me like a ton of bricks leaving me with my jaw hanging open going, "Oh My God no way that just happened!"  That is one of the things I love about Lexi Ryan's writing, as soon as I get comfortable and think things will be nice and predictable she catches me off guard and sends me on an awesome ride!

The Here and Now series is a spin off of the equally amazing New Hope series.  If your not up to date on the New Hope gang, I personally recommend reading them first as there are some minor spoilers in this book for that series.  However, I don't feel anything would be damaged by starting here first!  The Here and Now series had a very different feel to me from the New Hope series but its nice to see the whole gang come together yet again.  Book two in the Here and Now Series, Fall to You, is due out in June 2014.  Thankfully that means the wait to find out what will happen with Hanna Max and Nate won't be too long... however I suspect that we will find another cliffhanger at the end of that one too!  Bring it on Lexi Ryan, bring it on!

Good Girls Don't Date Rock Stars (Rock Canyon Romance #2) by Codi Gary

Gemma is easy to love.  She is a bookworm and an awesome mom (seriously, how can I not relate to her?!).  After ten years of dedicating her life to her son, she decides to attend a book event in Vegas.  Except for Gemma, what happens in Vegas, does not stay in Vegas.  That's what happens when you re-connect in Vegas with your first love who is now a major Country Music star.  It is like no time has passed between them.  After a night of drunken fun, Gemma wakes up to find herself married to the love of her life... only she doesn't remember marrying him!

Travis is not what I expected from a Country Music star.  His heartbreaking past has left deep marks on his soul.  Travis is sweet, kind, gentile, and of course smokin' hot.  He wants Gemma and he is finally ready to fight for her.  Travis seems to drip romance from every pore of his body.  The things he plans for Gemma are  above and beyond amazing, even for a book boyfriend.  Travis for sure gets my number one spot for most romantic book boyfriend ever.

The story line was sweet and a little bit predictable but that was just the kind of read I needed right now!  I really loved both Gemma and Travis and felt connected to both of them.  Their relationship felt real, not forced or fictional and that fact really made the whole story for me!  I will for sure be checking out more reads by Codi Gary!

Please note that this book is part of the Rock Canyon Romance series.  I have not read the first book, however, each book can be read as a stand alone too.  Book three in this series is due out May 20, 2014 and its titled Bad Girls Don't Marry Marines.  I'm intrigued and cannot wait to sink my teeth in!

BLOG TOUR AND GIVEAWAY: Good Girls Don't Date Rock Stars (Rock Canyon Romance #2) by Codi Gary

GoodGirlsDontDateRockStars
Gemma Carlson didn’t plan on waking up married.

She also didn’t count on running into her old flame—and her son’s father-turned-country-rock star—Travis Bowers, followed by a night of drunken dares. Apparently one of those involved a ring on her finger and a vow…neither of which she intends to keep. Now with a hangover from hell, this good-girl-gone-bad knows there’s just one thing to do: run.

Travis has been all over the world, but Gemma has never been far from his thoughts. So when he had the chance to catch up over a few drinks, he didn’t hesitate. Of course he didn’t expect it would lead to marriage, or a runaway bride! Travis finally has a second chance and doesn’t plan on losing Gemma again—or the son he didn’t know he had. He proposes—albeit belatedly—a date. Or rather, a few. If they can make this marriage work by starting over, he stays. If not…

Gemma’s not interested; she’s got a son to protect and a heart to heal. But having Travis around could make both a little easier. Still, good girls don’t date rock stars…right?

BLOG TOUR & GIVEAWAY: Lost In Me (Hear and Now #1) by Lexi Ryan

LOST IN ME is the first book in the Here and Now series, a spin-off of the New York Times and USA Today bestselling New Hope series. This sexy amnesia love triangle is intended for mature readers.

The last thing I remember is having drinks at Brady’s and trying to avoid eye-contact with my life-long crush—the gorgeous, unattainable Maximilian Hallowell. They tell me that was a year ago, but I have no memories of anything since then. What I do have is this ring on my finger that Max says he gave me, and this much-thinner body I’ve dreamed of most of my life. Aside from a case of retrograde amnesia, everything seems almost…perfect.

But the deeper I immerse myself into this new world of mine—planning a wedding to a man I don’t remember dating, attempting to run a business I don’t remember starting—the clearer it becomes that nothing is as it seems. Do I have the life I’ve always wanted or is it a facade propped up by secrets I don’t even know I have?
I need answers before I marry Max, and the only person who seems to have them is the angry, tatted, sexy-as-sin rocker Nate Crane. And Nate wants me for himself.

LOST IN ME is not a standalone novel, as the story continues in Here and Now book two, FALL TO YOU, releasing in June.

Safe & Sound by T.S. Krupa

Holy emotional roller coaster! I was crying within the first 15% of Safe and Sound, and not just sniffles either...full on ugly crying.  This book hit every emotion you can think of.  The whole premise of such a young woman losing her husband so suddenly is very sad, but T.S. Krupa did an excellent job of showing true raw emotion.

Safe and Sound followed Jill through the entire first year after her husband Jay passed away, and I really felt completely connected with her.  There was no sugar coating the complete despair that you feel when losing a loved one.  It also had some of the most touching moments shared with some amazing friends.  I was so invested in this book right at the start and couldn't put it down.  I needed to know if Jill came out the other end of this story OK, or if the pain of having her future completely altered in a matter of minutes was just too much for her to overcome.

Jill had the help of some of her oldest friends, Stella and Lanie, along with her husbands best friend Harry to get her through the toughest time of her life.  She had lost her husband, and also found out that he had been keeping several very large secrets from her.  She trusted these people as if they were family, because to her they were the only family she had left.  But did they all deserve this trust??? How did Jay keep all of these secrets? Did she really even know him at all?

RELEASE DAY: Nearly Broken by Devon Ashely

New Adult Romantic Suspense / Dark Realistic Fiction

God help me…Zander isn’t the worst thing out there.

Megan Whitaker desperately wants to forget what the Malone brothers have done to her over the past two years – the haunting images and sensations still plaguing her thoughts and dreams – but she can’t. Charles may be dead, but Zander isn’t. I’ll find you and bring you back to me. She wants to believe she’s safe with Nick in their secluded new home, but it doesn’t keep her from looking over her shoulder, jumping over unexpected sounds, carrying a concealed weapon or even preparing for the worst.

Nick Ellis has seen a change in his long, lost love. Battered emotionally and physically, Megan spends her days at self-defense classes and researching things that’ll never allow her to let go of the past. And he feels guilty even asking her to, because he knows that heathen will return, it’s only a matter of time. And when he does, Nick will do anything to save her, even the unthinkable, risking everything he’s fought so hard to get back.

But there is no escaping the world of sex trafficking, nor the band of men who continually aid one another to keep it thriving. And as her nightmares begin to converge with reality, Megan realizes there are far worse people to fear than the one who haunts her dreams.

New Adult Romantic Suspense / Dark Realistic Fiction

Recommended for 17+ for mature and disturbing situations, language and sexual content.

The Wanderers by Jessica Miller

Oh. My. God.  I am speechless.  Literally speechless.  I was completely shocked at how much I LOVED this book.  The Wanderers was NOTHING what I expected it to be, in an awesome way.  I can't say why without ruining the best part of the book, but there were a number of twists that I NEVER saw coming.  I was invested in the story within a few pages and it just kept getting better and better as I kept reading.

Ella was a typical teenage girl, eager to get out from under her overprotective parents and start the next phase in her life.  She was headed off to college and her best friend Josie (Who I LOVE) was coming with her...how perfect! She immediately began making new friends, and even joined a sorority (after incessant begging from Josie).  And of course she met a few boys!

Tristan was the typical player frat boy who is unimaginably gorgeous.  He is also cocky and knows EXACTLY just how beautiful he is.  Ella wants to hate him in the worst way possible, but she just can’t deny the chemistry between them.  She can instantly sense when he is around before she even sees him, because every time he shows up her stomach flips upside down and her whole body tingles.  She has never felt this way and it gets the best of her.  I don't blame her though, even my feelings towards Tristan kept flopping around.  I loved him one second and despised him the next, but by the end of the book I was completely sure of my feelings for him.

Then there is Jack.  The cute nerdy boy who lives in her hall.  He is super sweet and a great friend.  He has made it known he has feelings for Ella.  She knows he is the smarter, safer choice, and he would treat her like gold.  Ella is very conflicted, her head and her heart just can’t agree.  She tries to follow her head and starts dating Jack...but the devil on her shoulder just won’t let her forget about Tristan...

When things start to go wrong and her past catches up to her, who will be the one to save Ella in the end? Will it be party boy Tristan, or dependable sweet Jack??
